REBIC
The Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition (REBIC) is an organization of trade associations formed to take collaborative action on issues of concern to their broad membership engaged in the sales, building, development, finance, management and leasing of real estate. The primary members of REBIC are the Charlotte Regional Realtor® Association and Home Builders Association of Charlotte. The organization also includes the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association, the Charlotte Region Commercial Board of Realtors®, and the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties-Charlotte Chapter, as well as a number of leading area development firms.
REBIC has been active in public policy issues since the early 1980s, and has played a successful role in many areas of concern to the real estate and building industry. REBIC was officially formed in 1987 because the real estate and building industry was and continues to be faced with a constant barrage of local, state and federal laws and regulations; ordinances and guidelines; and other public policy challenges.
The simple theory behind REBIC is strength in numbers. REBIC functions essentially as an association of associations, however, with a single mission: to promote public policies which encourage regional economic growth, job creation and a healthy real estate industry.
REBIC influences public policy by:
- monitoring and analyzing information from a wide variety of sources
- researching and formulating policy positions
- communicating those positions to constituency groups, elected officials and agency staffs
- facilitating grassroots participation of its members
In addition to participating in the regular meetings of its member associations, the professional staff of REBIC also monitors meetings of the county commissions, municipalities and planning commissions in the region. Staff attends meetings of local government committees affecting real estate on an as needed basis. In addition to local and regional meetings, REBIC monitors statewide issues which affect our members.
REBIC is also the parent entity of the Shelter Providers Political Action Committee Enterprise (SPPACE), which is active in supporting candidates for public office at the state and local levels in North Carolina.
